Program Overview

Hispanic Students and Study Abroad

In order to become the global leaders that the United States and the world need, Hispanic students need to be prepared for the opportunities and challenges that globalization presents. Right now, Hispanic college students study abroad at about 50% the rate of non-Hispanic students. BR>
The HSAS program is meant to make available a set of study abroad options that are affordable form and is part of the Hispanic Global Alliance, a largr initiative between HACU: the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and Global Learning Semesters, a leading organization in the field of study abroad.

Your Role in the HSAS Program

We expect that in most institutions the study abroad office will be responsible for selecting or nominating the HSAS scholar for the institution.

For us to be able to process the HSAS scholarship, your institution must be registered as an HGA (Hispanic Global Alliance) Affiliate so that we know who the responsible party is for nominating students from your institution.

Once your institution is registered, the responsible party will be notified when students apply to the program and will have the opportunity to nominate your HSAS scholar based on criteria that you select.

To register as an HGA Affiliate, please go to:

If you are not certain if your institution is registered, please email us at: HSAS@GlobalSemesters.com.

Capacity-Buildig

Many study abroad offices at HACU institutions are under-resources relative to the needs of their institutions. That is why the Hispanic Global Alliance has a large capacity-building component to help HACU institutions take advantage of the study abroad expertise and tools made available by Global Learning Semesters.

If you feel that your study abroad office could benefit from free training, staff development and software tools, please register for the Capacity Building portion of the HGA at http://www.hispanicglobalalliance.org/join-the-hga.html
